Bounds on the distribution of extreme values for the stress in composite materials

چکیده

Suitable macroscopic quantities beyond effective elastic properties are used to assess the distribution of stress within a composite. The composite is composed of N anisotropic linearly elastic materials and the length scale of the microstructure relative to the loading is denoted by ε. The stress distribution function inside the composite λε(t) gives the volume of the set where the norm of the stress exceeds the value t. The analysis focuses on the case when 0 < ε << 1. A rigorous upper bound on limε→0λ(t) is found. The bound is given in terms of a macroscopic quantity called the macro stress modulation function. It is used to provide a rigorous assessment of the volume of over stressed regions near stress concentrators generated by reentrant corners or by an abrupt change of boundary loading.

In a sequence of random variables, record values are observations that exceed or fall below the current extreme value. Now consider a sequence of pairwise random variables {(Xi,Yi), i>=1}, when the experimenter is interested in studying just thesequence of records of the first component, the second component associated with a record value of the first one is termed the concomitant of that ...

Creep Strain and Stress Analysis in Laminated Composite Pres-sure Vessels

This study investigates the time-dependent long-term creep strain in a composite cylinder made of glass/vinylester with a unidirectional ply. The cylinder is subjected to an internal pressure and the boundary condition is free–free and acts as thermal insulation. The classical lamination theory (CLT) is used to derive the governing equations as a second-order equation to determine the radial, c...

Comparison study between layered and functionally graded composite beams for static deflection and stress analyses

The aim of this paper is to compare the static deflections and stress results of layered and functionally graded composite beams under static load. In the comparison study, the results obtained for a cantilever beam under point load. The Timoshenko beam and the Euler-Bernoulli beam theories are used in the beam model. The energy based Ritz method is used for the solution of the problem and alge...
